Purpose

The purpose of this reading/doing group is to get CDMS lecturers thinking about different teaching methods and sharing their experiences, which will hopefully lead to improved teaching and learning in the school.

Format

The group will meet on the last Friday of each month from 2pm to 3pm using Zoom. Each session will cover one chapter of the book. A leader will be assigned to each session. The leader's role to to summarise the chapter and highlight important parts of the chapter and foster discussion. The leader can also provide questions for the group to discuss.

Joining the group

To take part in the group, get access to the mailing list and get access to the group calendar, request to join the: <stem-teaching@westernsydney.edu.au> group in Office365.

Generic questions that could be used for each session.

The leader should provide a few questions to promote discussion. Here are a few that apply to most chapters.

  • Can I relate to scenarios provided in the chapter?
  • Have I tried to use the methods provided in the chapter and if so, what was my experience?
  • Do I know of any research that is related to the topic and if so, what did it conclude?
